Friday Reads: Regency and Other Things

This week has been a bit rough for a lot of people for a myriad of reasons. Those feelings are valid. Remember you have only so much energy, attention, and time. You don’t have to justify to me how you are prioritizing these things. I guess what I ask is that you use what you have for good, whatever that means for you and the people around you.

I’ve got a stack of cookbooks to go through this weekend. My siblings have expressed a desire for experimenting (this may run its course sooner rather than later, the tried and true recipes may not be exciting but they are edible usually and fairly easy to make).

I’ve started Thornwood and it has been interesting so far. It is a retelling of Sleeping Beauty but from the point of view of a younger sister. The first chapter is set on cursed older sister’s sixteenth birthday but very quickly we discover that things have gone wrong even when the curse theoretically should have been broken. The sister dynamic changes things already. There is competition and struggle but also love. I want to see how they both grow from these experiences.

I’ve also started a regency romance. It has been kind of funny so far and I sympathize with the leading lady. She was married to this guy, he croaked, and now the creditors are at their door taking everything (including his marble statues). She’s having to think fast. I’m not quite sold on the leading man but I’ve only had one chapter.

What are you reading this weekend?

And I hit send to early lol. I was going to add that I’m currently reading Traitors Blade by Sebastian de Castell and really just started it but hopefully it’ll be a new fav! Experimenting with cookbooks sounds fun and I hope you all find lots of great new recipes! Happy weekend reading! ☺️
