A Month of Faves: 2021 Goals Thoughts

A Month of Faves is hosted by Kim and Tanya at girlxoxo.com.

I made three reading goals at the beginning of the year: I wanted to complete the PopSugar Reading Challenge, Olympus Mons level for Mount TBR, and I wanted to read 10 to 12 Tanith Lee books.

I did complete the PopSugar Reading Challenge. This was a good choice because normally I’d be trying to do tons of prompt-based challenges. Focusing on this one meant I finished one of them.

I didn’t read 150 books I owned before January 2021. The main problem was that I didn’t have a lot of motivation to read those books after making this goal. But that doesn’t work because this type of goal is a marathon, not a sprint. And I wanted to read the library books I was getting and those have a due date.

I wanted to read more books by my favorite author, Tanith Lee. That makes sense. I only read two: Biting the Sun (I highly recommend) and Shadowfire. Shadowfire is a second book and it was a bit of a struggle. It follows a main character who is not the most fun. He’s not a great person and his society is full of people like him. It isn’t really until the end when there is a small shift and I don’t know what that means for the third book. So Biting the Sun was easy to get done in a month but Shadowfire took several and that threw off the whole thing. But I also don’t regret taking time with Shadowfire.

What are some goals you changed or discarded this year?
