For this I defined an underrated book as having less than 1,000 ratings on Goodreads at the time I’m typing up this post.
First, I present some fabulous picture books: Chase Those Witches! by Elizabeth Dale and Sian Roberts, Christopher Pumpkin by Sue Hendra, Paul Linnet, and Nick East; The Three Little Superpigs: Trick or Treat? by Claire Evans, and Short and Sweet by Josh Funk and Brendan Kearney. Three of the four are spooky and the fourth features food.
A Game of Fox and Squirrels by Jenn Reese and One Great Lie by Deb Caletti take on harder topics and they are both very good. The Raven Heir is not where I’d recommend starting with Stephanie Burgis but this isn’t a bad book to pick up.
