Nancy Drew and the Palace of Wisdom
written by Kelly Thompson
art by Jenn St-Onge
Dynamite, 2019
YA Contemporary Graphic Novel
Summary: Nancy receives a mysterious note that sends her back home to investigate. Reuniting with old friends makes things complicated and fun but the stakes get higher with each dead body.
Likes: The level of sass on this cover makes me smile. The art is colorful and expressive, my favorite qualities. I loved seeing the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys characters reimagined. Bess is still my favorite and I love that she gets more to do. Nancy Drew is also so cool. Clever and sassy but she also needs to learn to ask for help when she needs it. I always thought she was awesome in the original novels and that comes through.
Dislikes: As much as I love all the characters and the interactions between them, there might have been too many right out of the gate.
Overall I really liked this one and would love to see more mysteries with this cast.
