Check Please! Book 2: Sticks and Scones

by Ngozi Ukazu

First Second, 2020

Adult Contemporary Graphic Novel

9 cups of tea out of 11

Summary: This book covers Bitty’s last two years at university. His boyfriend, Jack, has started his professional hockey career and they are keeping their relationship secret so that they don’t have to deal with other people’s responses. But that puts negative pressure on their relationship plus they are already dealing with a long distance situation. Bitty bakes a lot in this book.

Likes: A bunch of characters graduate but they are still involved with the team members who haven’t graduated yet. Bitty and Jack’s relationship is so supportive. They also have supportive friends and teams. We also got to see how things affect Bitty. For the most part he’s a cheerful guy but things get hard for him so seeing him achieve means even more. Plus this volume is just as funny as the first.

Dislikes: I’m not ready for this to be over…

Overall I love this two book series. I highly recommend it and it was worth the wait.
