In/Spectre, Vol. 1

Story by Kyo Shirodaira

Kodansha Comics, 2016

Summary: Kotoko and Kuro have secrets. They have complicated relationships with the supernatural. Kotoko mediates disputes, Kuro’s girlfriend dumped him.

Likes: I didn’t like Saki at first but then we see her in the second part of the book as a police officer, I liked her a lot better.

Dislikes: It feels like most of Kuro’s personality is in the cover image rather than in the manga. He needs to step it up. I’m a little conflicted because this was a slow start. I think it should have started with the ghost problem and maybe hints of the first part in flashbacks. Kuro isn’t really in the ghost problem part. I’m not sure how I feel about the one-sided instalove. I like that he seems to be a voice of reason. But the ghost problem part is a year later (or so). I’m not sure what their relationship is like. I’m also conflicted about Kotoko because I found her fascinating but also awkward.

Overall I want to read the second volume but it has a lot to do for me to actually continue the series. In general, it just feels like there is so much potential but that could also mean that it fails spectacularly and annoys me.
