Graphics Readathon Update 2

The readathon ended yesterday so I thought I’d update you on the rest of my reads (1st update here) that I haven’t reviewed yet.

I read On a Sunbeam and Spinning by Tillie Walden. Spinning is Walden’s graphic memoir about her time as a competitive ice skater. It is interesting because I think it does make the point that everything outside of the rink contributed to the performance on the ice. These experiences don’t exist in separate bubbles. On a Sunbeam is a science fiction and a girls school romance story combination. I did like both but both suffered when it came to distinguishing characters. The faces are the same. I had to rely on hairstyles mostly. But when characters changed their hairstyles things got confusing. Also when the art played with light and shadow, sometimes little distinctions got lost.

I also read the ten volumes of the yuri manga, Citrus by Saburouta. More to come on that.

And I tried two volumes of LDK by Ayu Watanabe. I’ll probably go into this a little more because I liked things but I’m also not continuing the series.

I had a lot of fun with this readathon.
