I’m currently obsessed with A Curse so Dark and Lonely by Brigid Kemmerer. A colleague had said in her review that she was surprised by how much she liked it. I decided to put myself on hold. It was a long hold list but I finally was able to take this book home with me and I was hooked from the first page. It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling. I feel like it homages the original fairy tale and the Disney movie. It also reminds me of Uprooted by Naomi Novik (which also took my heart for a spin). There’s a lot of darkness but there’s also hope. The situation is more complicated than it originally appears. I love how scrappy Harper is. I’m having trouble reading anything else right now.
I also returned a bunch of the young adult contemporary romances I’ve been stockpiling. As autumn creeps closer, I’ve found myself less and less likely to reach for them. (I bought my first Halloween decoration of the year yesterday!)
What are you reading this weekend?
