I finished two books last week!
The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom
by Christopher Healy
Walden Pond Press, 2012
Middle Grade Fantasy
8 cups of tea out of 11
Summary: There’s a witch (the one who locked up Rapunzel) who is tired of not getting the attention she deserves. So she kidnaps the bards of all the kingdoms nearby and plans to do some very evil things. Four princes and four princesses rapidly get involved, make mistakes, and form bonds of friendship.
Overall the princes were almost useless in the beginning but it was funny to watch and it was nice to see them develop over the course of the book. I’m looking forward to the next book.
Six Impossible Things
by Fiona Wood
Poppy, 2010
YA Contemporary Romance
3 cups of tea out of 11
Summary: Dan’s mom and dad are divorcing, she’s a mess, he has to change schools, and they don’t have much money for food. But Estelle, a very pretty girl, lives next door and he’s determined to be the guy she ends up with.
Overall Dan is a bit of a whiner (although the mispronouncing of his last name was relatable) and had few moments where he possessed a spine. Estelle was also flat. She felt more like a list of facts than a distinct personality. The plot was also not that compelling.
The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom was such a fun read. I need to try the next book in that series too.
Lol, yea. The princes were useless.
