The Witch Boy
by Molly Knox Ostertag
Scholastic, 2017
Middle Grade Fantasy Graphic Novel
4 cups of tea out of 11
Summary: Aster prefers to do “witch” magic rather than the magic he’s supposed to learn which will help him fight demons.
Likes: The villain had the most personality, I thought he was very sly and interesting.
Dislikes: The message was a little heavy-handed, the world-building was pretty thin, and the relationships and characters could have been fleshed-out more.
Overall I didn’t hate this but it left me feeling like there should have been more development and more room to go into various pieces.
Content
A couple of the kids eating a dead animal, grossed me out a little.
