Summary: 50 personal essays from different writers answering the question, “What is it like to grow up Aboriginal in Australia?”
Likes: I liked that this was a collection of different people writing about their experiences. I feel like a learned a lot that I wouldn’t have learned otherwise.
Dislikes: Most of the essays assume that the reader is at least familiar with Australian history and I am not.
Overall I probably wouldn’t have picked this up if Book Riot hadn’t made a recommendation list for their prompt “#ownvoices set in Oceania.” I’m really glad I decided to try this one because I felt like I got a collection of perspectives I haven’t ever read from.
