Fruits Basket, Vol. 1

by Natsuki Takaya

Yen Press, 2016

10 cups of tea out of 11

Summary: Tohru finds herself living in a tent when she meets the Sohma family. When she starts living with them she discovers their secret.

Likes: This is hilarious. I had forgotten how funny this could be. And I still love Tohru and the gang. Mostly Yuki though, he’s still my favorite.

Dislike: This translation… “Yucky Yuki”? No. Yuki saying “man” like a dude-bro. No. Also, so much of the dialogue is unnatural and weird. To be fair to this translation though those do look like chives (one of the foods Kyo notoriously doesn’t like) rather than leeks so that was a probably a good change.

Overall I’m continuing with the series reread. Pretty excited. Although, I probably won’t read anything else until I’m done.

Content

Language – Medium, swear words sprinkled throughout

Sexual – Mild, some innuendo
