Six Wakes

by Mur Lafferty

Orbit, 2017

Adult Science Fiction, Murder Mystery

8 cups of tea out of 11

Summary: Maria wakes up in her clone vat to a scene of bloody carnage with no memory of how it happened. She and the rest of the clone crew have to figure out what happened before the killer kills them again.

Likes: I love how complex the characters are and learning about them as the book progressed.

Dislike: Sometimes the writing was clunky when there was a transition between writing about the characters’ thoughts to writing about their actions.

Overall I enjoyed this one a lot. I found the characters intriguing, especially their backstories. I also enjoyed the science behind cloning and mind-mapping.

Language – Medium, some strong language

Violence – Medium-High: bloody situations, violent altercations, low-level torture, referenced torture and battle scenes

Drug Use – Mild, adults drinking alcohol
