Another story from Writers Gone Wild by Bill Peschel, this one includes biographer Edmund Gosse, William Michael Rossetti, and his daughter (possibly Olivia because she married an anarchist refugee from Italy).
They were on a crowded bus, Edmund Gosse called Rossetti an anarchist, Rossetti replied that he was an atheist and that his daughter was the anarchist. A bunch if not all of their fellow passengers left the bus and the three were able to sit down (28).
I thought this story was pretty funny, they deliberately manipulated the perceptions of strangers around them and were able to benefit from it. I also don’t know that much about William Michael Rossetti. I’m more familiar with his siblings Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Christina Rossetti.
