Anna Dressed in Blood

by Kendare Blake

Tor Teen, 2011

YA Supernatural Horror

8 cups of tea out of 11

Summary: Theseus Cassio Lowood has come to Canada to kill Anna Korlov, a ghost who violently kills anyone who enters her house. Things don’t go according to plan.

Likes: The characters are my favorite part: Cas, Anna, and their supporting cast Thomas and Carmel were all distinct and had such great scenes where they shine.

Dislikes: I was totally rooting for the romances but I’m not sure I completely buy them. I want to see what happens in the sequel though before I pass judgment.

Overall this reminded me a lot of Meg Cabot’s Mediator series because in that series the leading lady sends ghosts into the afterlife, sometimes violently. Not as violently as Cas but sometimes she has to beat them up. I have no problem recommending both of these and I want to read the sequel, Girl of Nightmares, ASAP.

Language – Medium, regular but not constant

Violence – Medium-High: people are dismembered, torn apart, stabbed, and cut across the throat. There are also a couple scenes of domestic abuse, physical and emotional.
